In your personal opinion, who is the worse person in this story: Oedipus, or Jocasta? Who was more wrong in their actions throughout the story/their lives previous to this story?
Jocasta was worse than Oedipus. She should have double checked Oedipus out before she married him to be sure that it was not her son, because she never knew for sure if he died or not; the shepherd did not give her proof that her son was dead. Oedipus was blind to the entire situation because he thought his parents were two totally different people, so he was trying to avoid the wrong people. He was trying to avoid the wrong father. He was also trying not to marry who he thought was his mother, when she did not turn out to be his mother.
Jocasta was worse. If she hadn't tried to have her son killed, this whole situation NEVER would have happened. However, some could argue that Oedipus is worse because of his pride. Eventually I'm sure Oedipus' excessive amount of pride would have gotten him into some sort of trouble, but Jocasta got them both into trouble first when she asked to have her baby killed. If she had just had a HEART and maybe given him to some sheperd to raise, she probably would have been more careful getting married. She also shouldn't have married such a young guy anyway. So she is worse because she's a heartless mother and old couger.
